Justice Day 2024 Has Been Announced
Justice Day is an event put on by The Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ). MAJ stands as the collective voice for over 1,200 trial attorneys across the state of Maryland. Committed to safeguarding the civil justice system, MAJ tirelessly advocates for consumer rights while prioritizing the ongoing education and professional development of its extensive membership. The organization envisions a legal system that is not only fair but impartial, dedicated to protecting the rights and safety of all individuals. Through legislative advocacy and the continual advancement of trial lawyers, MAJ is on a mission to enhance and protect the civil justice system. Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to diversity, MAJ ensures that its membership, leadership, staff, activities, committees, and sections reflect and serve the diverse population of the state.
Originating in 1954 as the Maryland Plaintiff’s Bar Association, MAJ has evolved into a non-profit, professional association with a rich history of collaboration with the American Association for Justice (AAJ). In 2008, the association underwent a name change from the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association to the Maryland Association for Justice, Inc. Throughout its existence, MAJ has been privileged to host numerous distinguished attorneys within its ranks, recognizing their significant contributions to improving the civil justice system and advancing the public interest.
What happens on Justice Day?
Justice Day 2024 is set to take place on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Historic Inns of Annapolis in the Duke of Gloucester Room. Hosted by MAJ, this legislative advocacy event is free for MAJ members, aiming for its largest attendance ever. The day kicks off with a breakfast briefing and strategy review with the MAJ legislative team. Attendees will participate in pre-scheduled meetings with legislators, focusing on committees crucial to MAJ issues and 2024 priorities. MAJ will organize a virtual prep meeting before Justice Day to equip participants with essential information, talking points, and position papers. Teams of at least four MAJ members will be formed for each assigned meeting, ensuring support for all attendees, even those new to Justice Day. It’s an opportunity to engage in impactful advocacy and connect with like-minded MAJ members.

Bruce M. Plaxen, the founder and senior partner of Plaxen Adler Muncy P.A., established the firm in 1985 and has been dedicated to representing personal injury victims since its inception. A prominent figure in the Plaintiff’s Bar, Plaxen served as the President of the Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ) from 2001 – 2002, chaired numerous MAJ committees, and has been on the Board of Governors since 1993. Recognized as Maryland Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2008, he holds the distinction of being the only two-time recipient of the President’s Award. Currently serving as the Vice President of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Plaxen is the first Marylander to hold the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and now Vice President in AAJ. His role is significant, given that AAJ is the largest Plaintiff’s Bar in the country, advocating for civil justice since 1946.
David Muncy, who is the president of MAJ, has always been an active and accomplished member of MAJ. He has held various leadership positions, including Parliamentarian in 2018, Treasurer in 2019, and Secretary in 2020, becoming the youngest lawyer in Maryland to be elected to an Officer position. Additionally, he serves on MAJ’s Board of Governors and has previously led the Young Lawyers Division, the Membership Committee, and the Auto Negligence Section. Mr. Muncy’s dedication to MAJ has earned him recognition, receiving the Outstanding Service Award in 2019 and the Section of the Year Award in 2016 for his leadership of the New Lawyer’s Section.

Joshua Plaxen graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, and graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2012 magna cum laude. He was also inducted into the Heuisler Honor Society for finishing in the top ten percent of his class. During law school, Joshua served on the Executive Board of the University of Baltimore Law Review.
